Surge Control Systems:

Sometimes known as "Water Hammer," excessive surges in pumped liquid systems are undesirable - if uncontrolled can lead to catastrophic system failures, e.g. pipe breakage, valve and pump damage, resulting in downtime and high consequential loss.

Surge conditions may occur for various reasons, typically - but not limited to:  normal pump start / stop sequences, pump failure, power supply failure and general control and valve failure within the liquid conduits.

The result of a major liquid flow valve being opened or closed, or a rapidly changing demand may also have serious effects on the pipeline integrity.

At the early stages of a pumping system design, a hydraulic study / analysis should be carried out - this will highlight any potential surge condition which may occur in the proposed pumping regime.

Once the system characteristics are finalised and surge control methods have been highlighted as being required, our expertise may be sought to detail, manufacture, install and commission surge control equipment to alleviate any potential pumping system failure.

All surge control systems are tailored to suit the pumping system characteristics and are therefore unique to each and every scenario.

We have various methods of control to damp surges in all major liquid systems, whether potable water, raw water or sewage.  The control method is also selected to suit the particular pumping regime, which may have fixed or variable flow rates.

QUBE

"QUBE" is our unique patented method of control for complex variable flow rate / pump head and multi-pump systems.  This design has been specially developed for surge vessel and hydro pneumatic accumulator control (QUBE may also be retrofitted to existing systems)

Some of the major advantages of QUBE control are as follows:

bulletEnvironmentally benign
bulletEnergy efficient
bulletReliable, low maintenance
bullet

Renders bladder vessels potentially obsolete

Stainless Steel Vessels

Quantum Engineering have gained approval from The D.W.I. and the Scottish Executive for manufacture of pressure vessels in 304L & 316L stainless steel grades, for use in all U.K. potable water systems.
